MO-LAB II is a European Erasmus+ project that supports the modernisation of agricultural vocational education and training. We respond to the digital and environmental challenges transforming the agricultural sector and the demands of modern teaching and learning by developing new approaches that reflect the future of farming and education.
Through close collaboration with educators, agricultural practitioners and innovation experts, MO-LAB II aims to bring training content in line with real-world needs and future skill requirements.
MO-LAB II aims to modernise agricultural education by connecting innovation with practice.
Updating the competence profile for future farmers
We define what skills, knowledge, and digital competences tomorrow’s farmers truly need, from using AI tools in the field to applying sustainable practices in real time.
Through extensive research on the demands of Agriculture 4.0, a survey among farms in the partner countries, and a review of current curricula, we identify the most relevant competencies in the areas of digitalisation, robotics, AI, environmental protection, and sustainability. These are documented in a comprehensive catalogue. Selected competencies are addressed directly through the development of targeted training modules.
Co-creating future-oriented learning materials
We actively involve teachers, trainers, and farming professionals in designing innovative educational content that is relevant locally and aligned with European goals. Ensuring the developed materials are practical, engaging and relevant to educators and learners alike.
Developing six modular training units
Each module supports learners in building key competencies identified in the updated profile. They can be flexibly integrated into existing vocational curricula or used in lifelong learning settings. In addition to digital content, the modules will follow modern pedagogical and didactic principles and be delivered in formats that are engaging for learners.
Launching a SMART Platform for agricultural VET
We are building a free digital platform that provides easy access to the new materials. Educators, training providers, and farms across Europe will be able to use and adapt them to their specific needs. In doing so, we consider both current and future technical infrastructure in schools, as well as the evolving role of learning platforms. Modern teaching methods and the user-friendly structure of self-learning units are also key elements of our platform development.
Promoting agriculture as a modern and meaningful profession
MO-LAB II supports a new image of farming as an advanced, sustainable, and purpose-driven career. We aim to make the agricultural sector more attractive to young people and adult learners by showing its relevance and opportunity.

Needs Analysis
We review agricultural VET curricula, conduct surveys, and carry out in-depth research to identify key competence gaps. Our focus areas include digitalisation, robotics, artificial intelligence, sustainable fertilisation, and competencies related to environmental protection and sustainability.
Competence Profile
Based on this analysis, we define a future-oriented competence profile for modern farmers and animal producers. This profile outlines the core skills and digital competences needed to meet the challenges of Agriculture 4.0 and a rapidly evolving sector.
Training Modules
We design six innovative educational modules with tailored curricula that address the selected skills identified through our research. Each module is aligned with modern pedagogical and didactic principles, and delivered in flexible, engaging formats suitable for both classroom use and self-paced learning.
SMART Platform
All finalised materials will be made available through a dedicated digital platform for agricultural VET. The platform is designed to be intuitive and adaptable, supporting a wide range of learning environments and technical setups in schools and training centres. Special attention is given to modern teaching methods, learner-friendly self-learning units, and current trends in digital education delivery.
